The river Myllyjoki in Kinnula flows through various kinds of landscapes, in the middle of fields and among woodland. The name of the rapid reflects the fact that there are ruins of old mills on all six rapids. Nowadays the river flows free and it has been restored suitable for fish and fishermen alike. The river Myllyjoki is the largest river which flows into lake Kivijärvi. The fishing ground is situated in the area between the bridges of the roads Kinnula – Jääjoki and Kinnula – Viitasaari. The six rapids of the river Myllyjoki are steep, short, and very stony. Between the stones there are deep pits where the fish are. Fishermen who are wadding must be careful with the pits. The first of the rapids is the 87 metres long rapid Kitroninkoski. There is a bridge across the rapid. The rapid Ruuskopinkoski, which is over 200 metres in length and flows over many steps, begins after some 200 metres of quiet water area. The next rapid is the rapid Ylä-Myllykoski, which is the longest rapid in the river. It flows on many beds, and the total length of it is about 219 metres. The 175 metres long rapid Säynäskoski (also called Töpökoski) starts about 200 metres after the rapid Ylä-Myllykoski. There is a short quiet water area in the middle of the rapid. The last rapid in the river is the 73 metres long, very foaming rapid Ameskoski. You can see this rapid from the road from Kinnula to Viitasaari. There have been attempts to make fishermen as satisfied as possible on the river Myllyjoki. There are four lean-ons, several fireplaces and outside toilets along the river. You can get across the river in two places with the help of the bridges built there for this purpose. The guidance in the area is also very thorough. There are mainly rainbow trout in the river Myllyjoki. The lake trout population is maintained with spawn plantings. The river Myllyjoki differs from other fishing locations in central Finland, because you can do fishing there also during the closed season in autumn. The water in river Myllyjoki is brown and euthropic. During very dry summers the level of the water might be very low in the river due to the regulation of water.
