NET FISHING IN FINLAND

Net fishing is a traditional Finnish fishing method. You're sure to catch fish of many different species with this method.

Net fishing is possible throughout the year. In summer, the nets are laid from a boat in evening and emptied in morning. 2 persons are needed for net fishing. The other person rows the boat and the other lays nets. A couple of nets are usually laid together crossways at the bottom, near the shore. There should be a float at both ends of each net. Nets are checked for fish in the next morning. The net is raised on a gathering peg and the fish are released from the net. All the nets must be disentangled before they are laid back in water again.

You can fish any species you want by choosing a different location, fishing depth, fishing time and size of the net. It is also possible to lay nets near the surface with floats. Nets are floated under the ice in winter and they are emptied once a week.

Net fishing is possible on nearly all lakes. You should ask your accommodation services about net fishing possibilities and tackles.

Pike is a common catch in net fishing.

Pike fishing season begins after spawning in spring. Pike bite aggressively immediately after spawning. Big pikes are in deep water in summer when water is warm. There are plenty of small pike weighing under 2 kg in shallow water. Big pike come back into shallow water in spring.

You should lay out your nets near fushy shores in summer.

It is possible to fish pike with nets all around the year, but the best net fishing season is during spawning in spring.

Bream Net fishing in Finland

Brown trout Net fishing in Finland

Brown trout is an unusual but a respected catch for net fishermen.

Brown trout swim a lot near shores in autumn and spring and that's when it's possible to catch plenty of Brown trout. Sounds and ends of capes are excellent net fishing places.
