There are a lot of waterways in Finland. There are swift currents between lakes. It is enjoyable to troll in this currents and the biggest fish are often caught from them. Brown trout, pike perch and pike are usually fished from currents.
When trolling, row slowly against the current starting from the lower parts. A couple of rods should be used when trolling. You should make lures swim near probable lodges. You have to be careful not to disturb other fishermen.

You can troll pike perch in many running waters in Central Finland.
The best pike perch trolling places are in the slowest parts of running waters and in quiet water areas.
Pike perch is active in darkness and the best time to cach it is in the evenings and mornings. The best season to troll pike perch is in June and August.
Lures which imitate bait fish are often used in Central Finland to catch pike perch. Colourful 10 - 20 cm wobblers are excellent for pike perch.
Trolling is an effective method to fish Brown trout on the largest rapids in Central Finland.
Areas above rapids, above and below stones, under fallen trees and backflows are excellent Brown trout lodges. Places deep enough and sheltered places are excellent. Current does not have to be too swift in a lodge. The rises uncovers the habitat of the Brown trout.
Brown trout is active in darkness. The best time to catch Brown trout in summer are the darkest hours of the night. It is possible to catch Brown trout also during the day in autumn and spring.
Shallow-running lures of irritating colours, which imitates the bait fish, are use for Brown trout on rapids in Central Finland. It is also possible to use weighed lures to reach the bottom on big rivers.

You must always pay National fisheries management fee 2024 if you are aged 18-64 years. National fisheries management fee entitles you to fish in the fishing waters within a whole Finland (not in Aland). Fishing Permit entitles you to fish using single rod, reel and lure. You may also use a weighted lure or diver. This fishing Permit entitles you to fish everywhere but not at protection areas (often special fishing grounds and salmon and whitefish abundant rapids and currents). You can often purhace other permit to those areas. Fee is 45 EUR for the calendar year 2024 or 15 EUR for seven days or 6 EUR for one days and and you can get it online here.
